Greenhealth Exchange and Care Line Industries Enter into Agreement for Products made with recycled blue wrap

Category: BlueCON Circular Products, The BlueCON Company

RESTON, Virginia (February 1, 2017), The Greenhealth Exchange (GX) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement for plastic products, including totes and bedside plastics, with Care Line Industries, Inc., a certified VOSB (Veteran Owned Small Business).  These products are made from BlueCON Resintm derived from Halyard’s Blue Renew Program.  They not only pass the rigorous ingredient standard that GX’s industry experts and members have established for the category itself, but the products are made from recycled sterilization wrap (blue wrap).  This category therefore represents exceptional opportunities around sustainability.  It reuses a product where significant quantities would typically go to landfill, and the products themselves are free of chemicals of concern found in some plastics linked to cancer and other health problems.

John Strong, President of Greenhealth Exchange, said, “The Greenhealth Exchange is very pleased to launch this agreement.  The products we have included on our contract have passed the standard set by the nation’s most recognized healthcare sustainability professionals who we work with every day to determine what specifications are appropriate and move us forward in terms of safer, healthier patient products, better air quality and less waste.”

Care Line is manufacturing these products in partnership with Sustainable Solutions LLC, Halyard Health’s Blue Renew Program consultant. Halyard developed the Blue Renew Program to assist hospital customers in recycling used, clean Halyard Sterilization wrap from their operating rooms. Sustainable Solutions recycles the wrap and creates BlueCON Resin, which is used to create environmentally conscious products for healthcare facilities. To date, the program has assisted over 250 hospitals in diverting approximately four million lbs. of wrap from landfills each year.  All of the Environmental Preferred Purchasing (EPP) products including storage totes, wash basins and bed pans are made with a minimum of 80% recycled sterilizations wrap.
